I do encourage you to find a team that fits your style.
I personally am a run and gunner because others typically have a hard time keeping up with me. But if you can find members that fit your style you will be very effective for many reasons.
Some Tips I use that have been very successful. Some are probably obvious depending on how long you have been playing:
1) You really need to pay attention to your surroundings.
- Can you get to high ground and have that advantage especially if you use 320's.
- Can you get behind something for cover fire and/or recovery?
- Where are you vulnerable to Grenades or 320s?
2) LISTEN! I can't stress this enough.
Your audio should be focused on letting you know where people are based on cars, alarms, bullets and foot steps.
3) Know what team you are on while the map loads so you know what voices are enemy vs allies. CRITICAL.
4) This is huge. THE KILL FEED. I use the kill feed for 2 reasons.
a) What person uses what gun/class? I'm constantly looking for AMMO. Know the guns and who has them so you can get ammo after you kill the enemy that has support class.
b) If you hear shots and can tell where the shot came from, use the kill feed to see if it was from an enemy.
5) Don't just shoot because you see someone! Make sure you track them down to a range where you are confident you can get the kill otherwise a better opponent will recover and kill your ass.
6) if you feel someone has the UPPER hand on you, ESCAPE and engage from a different angle. DO NOT attempt to go one on one with someone who already has hurt you unless you just have no other choice because you can't Escape.
I feel I should say this 3 more times. ESCAPE if you don't have the upper hand!!!, Heal then engage from a different Angel. I'll spare you saying this 2 more times. It is critical to do this!
7) Practice your 45,90,180 degree turns for situations where you can't ESCAPE. This is last resort but effective if you aren't playing against high quality players.
8) If you know you will have a situation where you are going to fight in a frontal situation THROW DOWN HEALTH before engaging to give you the recovery advantage.
9) When engaging multiple targets you need to really focus on which one is the biggest threat. Very hard to do but it can be done with practice to hit those facing you first and then going for the easy target.
10) FOR GOD's Sake.. Do not DEFIB anyone without first clearing the area unless you think it may help to survive. Kill the threat then DEFIB.
11) Another Option is use SMOKE to Defib but you're sometimes asking for a multikill situation to happen if someone hits you with a 320 or grenade so use caution.
12) If there are multiple targets that put you in a dire situation, rely on your skill to throw a grenade or launch a 320 then immediately go to the other threat with a G18 hand gun to eliminate the close targets.
In summary you have to rely on your skill to pull off a saving situation.
13) When it doubt forget the knife kill unless you have his back or prone. Just shoot the fucker unless you need to be stealthy.
14) If you know someone is chasing you, mind fuck them and turn the corner and hit the ground and shot them from the lower viewpoint. It works at least 80% of the time.
15) Stay on the outsides of the map and face inward as much as possible. Getting caught inside the map unless you have team mates is usually a sign you will get picked off.
16) Always try to out flank your opponents unless you are really good at holding down specific areas.
17) Know when to reload your weapon. It should be done when you are behind cover and not when you are turning a corner with your pants down.
If you killed someone with less then 1/2 a clip then don't reload unless you know the coast is clear.
