Hey guys! Welcome to the Vehicular tips thread. If you have anything to add then by all means do so and lets discuss it!
* Just so that everyone is clear, the ones listed below are what I've found work for me so don't get bent out of shape and insist that other tactics work. I'm not saying they don't, only that these allow me to get consecutive wins and usually at a large margin at that. But before that I have a very important piece of advice, learn the map! You'll understand why soon. Also, since many people play hardcore, including myself, be aware that killing friendlies for a vehicle is a good way to get team killed throughout the entire game. Try to avoid it if necessary. Most will get out if you simply use the "Get out" call out. If they do then say "Thank you" and it'll make things much easier. If not, well, improvise.
Terrestrial Map Tactics:
To start off with, if you are intending to use a vehicle, run fkn engineer. Your vehicle is useless if it is a smoldering pile of scrap metal. Use the torch and fix it when necessary.
* Most people, when first spawning into a server almost always look for the attack chopper. This is ok because I don't personally recommend getting into an attack helicopter right off the bat. Instead, if you are alone then I'd recommend taking a jeep or tank and quickly securing objectives or strategically placing yourself where you can ambush enemy units coming into an objective. If you are with a squad that can properly communicate then I recommend getting as many tanks as possible so that you can coordinate support while taking objectives and barraging enemy vehicles. This is also handy when in a situation where repairing is deadly if you are alone. With someone watching your back then this is a major boon. Plus, it's always satisfying to bring down a heli with a tank; never gets old lol.
* Air space control. Now what I'm about to say is going to sound terrible but it works. Get a friendly to get into either a jet or taxi them with a little bird to the enemy base without being detected and take their AA unit. Bring it to home base or near there and give it some support. With two AA units you can control the air space by a good margin and allow friendly dominance with good effect. This is shitty but it works. To further This point, when using attack choppers there is a strategy that is very effective however it is best if used after your team has most or all objectives. If you have a good pilot and a decent gunner then some really fun possibilities start to emerge. For the gunner having TV missiles or guided rockets that lock onto ground vehicles for the secondary will allow for both the pilot and gunner to destroy even distant targets that could otherwise prove troublesome. Remember, using an attack chopper to take objectives may seem like a good idea but it's a good way to get an RPG up the ass or a sabot shell to the cockpit. Don't do it. Better to use it at distance so you can pelt the enemies from a distance and survive longer.
* Squad leaders! Be useful! Call out non friendly objectives, defend contested friendly objectives. Assigning a objective and it being captured and defended gives additional points to everyone involved and it also helps to let people know where to go and what to do. Conquest is not like TDM where one person can literally secure victory when no one else is doing anything but the other team is trying. Just doesn't happen that way. Big difference can be made but it's unlikely that a victory will be secured based on the efforts of one person alone unless the other team is lazily chilling in their deploy filing their nails or something (not likely).
Next up lets discuss Water dominated maps:
Again, run engineer if you intend to use vehicles on the regular.
* Lets use an example map for this one since it'll make things easier. Paracel Storm. It is generally recommended that if you start off in a helicopter then heading right for A (alpha) is your best bet. This is because a DV15 will spawn there (not to be confused with the wimpy RHIB). These OP boats are a deadly addition to any arsenal because they can use guided rockets and TV missiles. On this map you can take most objectives from the water. In fact, there's only one that you can't take from the water and that is B (bravo). Both teams will have two of the boats at the deploy but a third one can and will change the pace of the game and will allow you to dominate the server. Make sure you have a friendly on board in the last seat to use the repair torch as you float and gun. Very handy. Be wary of jets.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now lets move on to a slightly different point. Light armor vehicles.
Everyone knows about the LAV, little bird, BTR, etc. Well sadly these vehicles are often underestimated and can be quite useful if used properly. So, lets explore some of the benefits verses the downs to using them, shall we?
Benefits:
* Very fast. Vehicles like the LAV may not be able to take a tank on in a stand up fight but they are much more effective at quick maneuvering. Combine this with the ability to use guided missiles and the basic heavy gun and you have a nifty combo that can harass and effectively destroy even the most heavily armored tank. Just don't get hit. As for the little bird, it can not only move quickly but it can also carry several people at once and is capable of having not only heat seekers but also air to ground missiles. This is particularly effective if you want to harass tanks, jeeps, boats, etc. Simply stay above the tanks reach while close and keep hitting it and then shooting it with the second machine gun option so that you can damage it with bullets too. Also make sure to kill anyone who jumps out. Either they are gonna repair or hit you with a rocket.
Cons:
* Weak. These guys are practically one hit death boxes. These vehicles weren't meant to take a beating. They are for quick, in and out type roles. Peppering a tank from a distance is fine and all but if the tank hits you even once, you got some problems that you could have avoided. In some cases you get lucky but if you are in hard core then you can forget about that. One hit death is your fate if a sabot hits you in a little bird and 2-3 hits in a LAV is all it takes to become scrap metal. Keep you vehicle hidden as much as possible if you plan to take on heavy duty vehicles. For infantry, well you'll be ok, probably; but not against tanks ans such.
I hope that the info above was beneficial and please remember that this info is simply to give you an idea on how to more effectively use the vehicles in the game. I want you to consider what map you are on, the general terrain/or lack of, what vehicles are available, and finally to pay attention to the progress and general situation of the game itself. Remember, this is meant to be a discussion thread so don't assume I believe this to be the best route to victory, only that this is what works for me.
A final note, The info above is not comprehensive of my understanding of conquest, the vehicles available, etc. It is only to serve as a tool to help out those who are unfamiliar with the game mode. A good tactician never reveals even one third of his plans and certainly not his backups.
