Welcome to the Squad Death Match tips and tricks thread! In this section we'll be looking at some nifty things that you can do to better the survival odds of both you and your squadies; and get a few more kills added to the ticker!
First and foremost, The Map!
The most obvious thing that everyone playing any map on any game mode in bf4 should know is the map and what is where on it. This piece of knowledge will allow your squad to navigate, flank, and ultimately survive longer. As mentioned in a previous thread, call outs are important. Effectively utilizing them will allow for some much needed coordination. Most people tend to treat SDM as a TDM but the difference is vast.
Lets look at some of the basic characteristics of SDM:
* Potential to have much larger maps compared to TDM
* There are a max of 5 friendlies, all others want you dead
* Unlike TDM, SDM will rely much more heavily on communication
* Most matches are slower paced than TDM, this is not always true
Next up, lets look at some squad formations, classes, tactics, and some general tips to keep in mind when playing.
Classes: Assuming the squad consists of 5 combatants
*Medic
*Medic
*Support
*Support
*Medic/Recon
Unless on a map where vehicles are accessible, this general line up is your best bet. Why? Because this will allow you to maintain both constant health/revives and ammo; plus if you are in an area where it is advantageous, a recon might come in handy. On most maps (where there are no vehicles) the engineer class is largely useless for supporting purposes whereas all other classes have something to offer.
One or both Medics should be running defibs and at least one using either med packs for full heal on solo solder or med bags for group heal. The other should be using something like an m320 with either smoke or standard grenade launcher. Smoke is good for creating temporary cover for revives/retreats/flanks and m320 is good for getting rid of someone hiding behind a wall or something. Be creative.
Supports, ah supports.... There are several uses for supports and are arguably the most important member of the team in long term survival play. This is because no matter how many times you revive someone, bullets don't come with them so eventually everyone will run out of rounds. I mentioned this twice because one or both can use claymores to help secure an area or one might use something like a mortar or something if you have a recon to use a MAV. Also, supports, spread the leaded goodness around freely, we need that shit lol. Seriously, don't be a douche.
Recon...if you are running as one, please be useful. There are a myriad of equipment that makes the recon class both deadly and squad supportive. Recons are able to equip c4, claymores, MAV (and other remote piloted gadgets), spawn beacons, and TUGS. While there are other things it can use, these things can be extremely handy even on hardcore. For a mortar, knowing where the enemy is will make the difference between luck shot and precision shot. I know this can be effective because I have personally used this tactic on several maps to get final scores like 28/2 just from mortar bombardment while someone used an MAV. If used strategically, and supported by squad mates, then it will either bring the enemies that get desperate to you or they will begin mortaring also, which is fine since it will allow you to get a better handle on their position even if they destroy yours. Keep in mind that the MAV can destroy enemy equipment placed down like c4, claymores, spawn beacons, mortars, etc. Be wary of enemy MAV's.
In the event that you are in a map where there is not a lot of outside play like on Operation Locker, use claymores, keep your back covered and try to avoid getting stuck outside. It's stupidly difficult to get back inside with 15 people covering the exits and surrounding areas.
More to be added as time allows; sorry, I work for a living lol
