Well hello there!
As is mentioned in the title and similarly with all other threads, this one will cover the basics for those starting out in the Ark game.
To start with you will be spawned into a world at a semi random location. You will be naked, quickly getting hungry/thirsty, and surrounded by things that can and want to kill you. Congrats! There is some hope...although not much.....jk
Below will be listed a number of things to do as soon as you are sure you aren't being attacked:
- Make sure you aren't targeted by carnivores
- Spam Triangle button
- Punch stuff
- Engrams and leveling
- Shelter, Campfire
- Build and Explore
Everything mentioned above will to some extent help you and cannot be considered a full walk through since it is meant to get you to a point where you can actually play the game. You will die, repeatedly, while playing this game so don't give up on it right off the bat if you struggle at first. That's how it is designed, to make you struggle so get in there and claw your way up to the top. Plus, there are some really cool things that unlock as you progress through the game.
As a side note, the experience you acquire is mostly going to come from the passive experience accumulation system this game uses. for the first 20 days or so, even if you do almost nothing, chances are you will be around level 18 or so just from the passive point gain unit. This can be checked in the menus.
To take the side note further, different tools are more efficient at doing different things and yield various loot at different quantities. A prime example is the pick axe and the hatchet. If you use the pick axe then you will notice that it tends to give more thatch from wooden items, flint from boulders, and meat from bodies. As for the hatchet, it tends to favor wood from wooden items, rocks from boulders, and hide from bodies. Obviously they give the other items too but the point here is to use the right tool for the job. Need lots of thatch but good on wood? Use the pick axe. Need lots of rocks but have plenty of flint? Use the hatchet. Experiment and find out what works best given the situation and adapt. Try not to get caught up in thinking that you got it figured out because that's when something goes wrong or you get bit in the ass.
Be on the lookout for future updates to this thread as time goes on. Thanks for reading.
